| Femi Trimnell was
born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He graduated from Yaba College
of Technology in Lagos,
Nigeria with a bachelor’s
Degree in Fine Art.
His graduate thesis was presented in Inlaid Wood Marquetry, a medium
he continues to use extensively today. Femi also uses various other
media including oil, acrylic and watercolor and this demonstrates
the range of his artistic talent. Many of his works depict African
festivities, attire and musical instruments and sensitize the viewer
to a wide range of cultural events from an artistic perspective.
His other works embrace African-American lifestyles and is inwardly
reflective and serene.
Femi worked as a graphic illustrator and taught Fine Art in
Nigerian colleges after his undergraduate study. He visited
the United
States in 1981 and exhibited his works in the Los Angeles/San
Francisco
area. He later returned to the United States the following
year to continue his education and graduated from Howard University
in 1987 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.

Femi has participated
in many solo and group exhibitions in several West African
countries, England
and locally in the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area.
His works are in many private collections including Oba Oyekan
Ill (King of Lagos), Bernard Shaw (CNN), Howard University,
OlC-GM Milwaukee, and the Association of American Medical
Colleges (AAMC). In 1994, an art jury panel selected several
of Femi’s
artworks to be used for UNICEF cards (United Nations Children’s
Fund). Today, UNICEF cards with Femi’s art can be bought
in many countries and the proceeds are used to sponsor UNICEF
programs all over the world. |
